My take on this list differs from yours a bit. It seems to me that many of
the "worst offenders" for topic drift do seem to make an effort to update
the topic header. It is one of the things about this list that really
shines, IMHO.

I confess that I don't read much of the non-technical "chat" traffic. I just
do not have the time to read 300 Spridget emails per week. I know that I am
missing out on some of the community experience, but I can't help that. And
I am very appreciative of those who take the time to update the topic when
it takes a turn.

I've done two things that help me to manage the traffic. One was to
configure Outlook's Inbox Assistant to divert the Spridgets traffic to its
own box. The other is to set Outlook to sort the mail by subject, so I can
quickly skip an entire block of messages if they lose my interest.

With those two steps, I can read the entire list in about an hour a week,
which is unfortunately about all the time I have to spare for it.
