...been too long for me to remember the specifics on the A series....
on a B... the valve is a tap-off the side of the block between cyls 3&4
the heater core return is directly into ( a T'ed radiator hose) the lower
radiator hose.
The A series valve (knob on top on engine) seems like you could rig
up a valve similar to the B's valve. (cable controlled on off)
...I'm not really sure (from memory) if the two types of valves have
similar mounts or port openings.
If nothing else, and after market 1/4 turn valve should be able to be placed
in line with the heater core hose and a cable attached to shut it off
longer hoses and placing the 1/4 turn valve behind the motor would
make its appearance less noticable.

$0.02 YMMV

Subject: Heater Control Valves

I've got a quick question to those intrepid scroungers out there, does
anyone know of a nice cable operated heater control valve that bypasses the
heater core? I'm fed up with having to do with or without heat all the
time. I know that using the twist knob is not good because it starves
cylinder 3 of cooling and during the summer I often totally disconnect the
heater core. But during the spring and fall, its often hot during the day
(i.e. I would like airflow into the footwells if the heater core were not
full of hot water) and very cool at night (particularly when sunburned, so
heat would be appreciated). Has anyone rigged up a good solution to this
with easily available parts? How did you install it in on the dash and how
does it look? Is the MGB heater control setup bypass or shutoff? Other
suggestions? TIA
