Cats! They are lazy and ineffectual. The proper British remedy for rodents
is to keep an aggressive Jack Russell Terrier. They make good Spridget
companions as well, if you can get them to stay in the car.
See: http://www.pclink.com/vanner/Personal.htm for the mouse-killer
extraordinaire. She keeps a 100 year-old house and two garages 100%
mouse-free. Of course my Dalmatian has been known to chomp a few fieldmice
as well. (and looks smashing on the passenger seat)

Will need to consider myself fortunate for now. This would almost be
enough to make me get a cat if I wasn't so allergic to the little fur
balls. After all was cleaned up I took the car for a short drive. Life
is
better now.

Herb,
It's never bad enough to get a cat. Spread some moth balls under the hood
,
in the boot, and around the interior before putting it up next year. This
should keep out the rodents.
