I'm jealous, I had intended to spend the weekend driving my Sprite, but
spent
most of Saturday working on a leaking rear-axle. After replacing the
gasket
and O-ring last fall I thought it was fixed. But, when I slid under the
car on Friday
night I found I was wrong. I decided to pull the hub this time looking
for the
culprit. The axle seal was hard and cracking. I think I've finally got
it this time.
Never having pulled the hub before I was a bit nervous about the job.
It turned
out to be pretty easy. I'm too embarassed to admit publically how I did
it though.
Based on the number of posts regarding axle leaks, there probably
someone else
scratching their head wondering how to the pull the thing apart. The
oddball
looking tools for the job in the Bentley manual just further intimidated
me as well.
Anyway, if you want to know how I did it drop me a line and I'll be
happy to
tell.
I finally installed my header from APT on Friday night. Nicely made,
and dropped
into the engine compartment without a snag. No problems with the
mechanical
fuel pump either. Had to pull the steering tube, and the stock intake
manifold
required some modification to fit. Otherwise, piece of cake. APT only
charged
me $7.98 for shipping! Considering this went from LA to Michigan, not a
bad
deal. Beats dealing with the usual suspects.
