Hello Ed
I'm going to jump in on this thread too. I was replacing the head gasket
on Sunday and stripped one of the pedestal studs. They had not been
replaced in my rebuild. I was able to get it out and tonight set about
installing a new stud and then re-torqueing the head. I did replace all
the head studs with new ones from a combination of VB and M*ss when I
re-built. HOWEVER, when I was putting the final pressure on to bring them
up to 50lb the right front (#9) nut turned much more than the others. I
had done the torqueing in steps at 30 and 40 before going to 50. After a
few heart palpatations it finally "clicked".
If I read you correctly what I may just experienced is stud stretch. This
would only be the 3rd time they have been torqued down. This makes me
nervous.
Advice and comments please.
Thanks
dave
