who bid on night and Sunday jobs for the differential. Tell
them about those who work Sundays and complain if they don't
receive double Sundays. Tell them about getting extra
holiday pay, increasing amounts of leave, and job security
which prevents an incompetent being fired if he has a small
amount of seniority.
Yes, many people work nights, holidays, and all. Everyone
from the clerk at the 7-11 to the cop on patrol to my
veterinarian who delivered a foal on Christmas morning at 4
AM. They don't get all of those special privileges, but
they go on making things work anyway.
Yes, management screws up a lot of the process. $5,000
bonuses from some suit on the third floor because his
employees exceeded some minimal goal gets me every time.
But I also watched clerks throw the same tray of mail for
three hours for the overtime, and management had nothing to
do with that.
Sorry Carl, but as you can tell, I have been where you are.
I tell you this, I am glad as hell I got out. If you like
your job, good. The greatest thing in the world is to have
work you love. And yes, I would say that our Postal Service
is one of the best in the world. For what it costs us, it
should be. But if you want someone to do the "research" and
have it agree with you, find someone who has never worked
there.
