Are we talking about the same type of bushing here?  There are 3 types: 
rubber, nylon, and polyurethane.

I think everyone knows what rubber is.

Nylon has a number of derivatives and brand names but is a hard plastic like 
substance that can come in a variety of colours - usually clear, white or 
black.

Polyurethane is a bush that is softer than nylon but stiffer than rubber.  It 
wears better than both and comes in colours of the rainbow.  It is not to be 
confused with any Nylon type bushes.

Sure, the poly bushes will be stiffer than rubber, they are meant to be, but 
they can be used selectively.

As far as anti roll bar mountings go, I have used solid aluminium blocks for 
almost as long as I have had the car (10 years+).
