If you have access to an ohmmeter, hook 1 lead up to the terminal on
the sending unit and the other to the body of the sending unit and see if
there is any resistance (there should be since resistance changes as fuel
level changes). If the tank is still in the car check to make sure that the
wire from the guage to the sending unit is not shorted to ground somewhere.
First places to check are where the wire goes through the hole in the trunk
floor. Then anywhere the wire runs behind interior panels and you might have
driven a screw thru the harness.
