Added comment (I drove it today), when it misses and thus sort of bogs
down, you can floor it and it will pull cleanly w/o miss until you let off
and cruise at constant speed again. It also seems to backfire through the
carb every once in a while while it is in miss-mode.
Moving the carb pistons up and down by hand shows no binding.

That engine runs really nicely otherwise, idles smoothly, pulls strongly.
Just had a thought: could it be the NAPA PCV?....
