I don't really see what the problem is. Why not loosen the pinch bolt
and turn the
dizzy until you have 13BTDC. As you've already noted, if it was 180
degrees off
the car wouldn't run. When you put the dizzy drive gear in it probably
ended up
being one tooth different than where it was before.

Hi All,
Put my rebuilt engine in my Midget last night and got it running today. So
far so good. I noticed when I set the dizzy initally with the lightbulb on
/ lightbulb off method that the dizzy seemed to be turned further towards
the firewall than it was with the old engine.
Next I started it up and ran it in for 25 minutes, it was a little rough,
but I figured I'd take care of that when I did the tune up. Drained the oil
and put in new oil and filter.
Then I got out the good old timing gun, it's one of those with a dial on it
so you can see exactly where your at. It read that the timing was advanced
40 degrees!! Usually I shoot for around 13 degrees. I didn't dial in this
cam, I just used the old fashioned match the dots method. I'm positive that
they lined up when I put the timing gears on the crank and cam.
So what I'm left wondering about is the distributor driving spindle. When I
put it in it looked like it did in the book, and it's obviously not 180
degrees out. If it were off by one tooth could that be the cause of my
timing problem? Will it screw up the engine running it like this? I'm
definately going to fix whatever it is that is causing this, but with three
days of rain forecasted and me with no garage to work in...... it might be
a few days and I'll need to use the car in the meantime.
