The same thing happenned to me when I put Midget brakes on my Morris
about 20 years ago.  My solution was to put a spacer on the axle housing
hub to preven the bearing and hub from going on all the way.  Never had
any problems with that aspect of it and ran it several hundred thousand
miles before I made another brake conversion on the rear.  Back to the
original so the parking brake would work properly.
