That sounds familiar !
When I put a new cam in my 1275 I checked everything as DV suggests, using a
borrowed dial guage and also got 116 degrees with the punch marks lined up.
The cam I was using (276) needed to be advanced by 4 degrees from standard,
which was supposed to be 108 degrees.
I moved the cam sprocket round by one full tooth and used a stepped woodruff
key to get the timing as I wanted.
I guess that the standard marks are set "nigh enough for pitwork"
