BBC question--No LBC

Sorry to bomb y'all with this, but I am sure someone out
there knows the answer to my question.  Last Saturday I
watched another episode of "Dad's Army" on PBS.  In it was
an actor playing a coinstable who looked and sounded
familiar from another show.  His name was Arthur English
according to the credits.  Does this ring a bell with
anyone?  What show(s) was he in?  The itch is driving me
nuts.
