I have always liked the terminology that Jaguar used, eg for the XK series:

OTS = open two seater = roadster
        removable hood, side curtains
DHC = drop head coupe = convertible
folding hood, roll up windows, could have a removable hardtop
FHC = fixed hood coupe = coupe
        fixed hardtop

The term roadster has always had a more carefree, romantic ring to it...wind
in the face, dust in the teeth, etc., and usually better to just keep
driving when it starts to rain, because stopping to put the hood up takes
too long and means you will get truly soaked!
