Curtis:
Minnesota is where we send the elderly, the infim and the limp wristed when
they can no longer handle "real" winter weather :-)
Drove my Sprite to work this morning, top down, T-shirt on, barefoot (kept my
seal skin underwear though) :-)

Allright, you WIMPS....
As always, the Minnesotans have to come forward to set you guys
straight. We've been experiencing a small and short cold snap here in
"God's Country". Yesterday morning when I got up to go to work, the
thermometer read -12F. It's a good thing that Gerty is snugly tucked
away in heated storage this winter....it can get alot colder than this.
Two winters ago Minnesota broke the all-time low actual air temperature
for the lower 48 states with a recorded (and certified) temp of -60F. A
couple of my brothers' friends; who are avid winter campers, decided
(knowing that likely the record would be broken) to go out for a camping
trip that weekend. They recorded a bone-chilling (unverified) temp of
-67F in the low hollow in which they were camping. Each of them had
three sleeping bags, and they were in a double-walled winter tent.
Gerty's coolant is tested to -40F which doesn't leave much room for
actual water in the system. I'd guess it's about 80% anti-freeze. I
haven't had any corrosion or cooling problems, and I change the coolant
every 2 years. The coolant drain on the engine block has been
plugged, so I can't quite get all of it out, but still, she seems to be
happy with what she's got, so who am I to complain?
So let's stop this talk about wind-chill and winter temperatures you
"southerners".
Anyone from Alaska or Antarctica on the list?
Happy New Year, Quanza, Hanukkah, Christmas, etc....see you next year!
Regards, Curt (and a warm, safe, Gerty)
