This is a little late, but in the for what it's worth dept...
Have done two of these...one in the TR6 and once in the XJS...
Drill tiny hole (1/16") in plastic float, drain out gas...clean inside well
with lacquer thinner or acetone injected with med. size hypodermic
needle...drain again, and repeat until you no longer smell gas...let dry well.
Next, mix up liquid waterproof epoxy glue like used in woodworking, etc.
Inject a small amount into float, rotating float to completely cover interior
of float. Drain, suck out with hypo any excess. Small piece of tape over
drilled hole, turn hole down, so epoxy will settle at bottom to seal hole,
allow to cure for at least 24 hours (or follow instructions with epoxy).
Reinstall.
So far, has lasted over 2 years on TR6...just did this on the XJ-S, so far so
good...
