What's wrong with using the mechanical tach that came with the car???? I have a 1275 A+ engine in Starbug (see Puddlejumper hall of fame) and it works just fine.... didn't have to fool with the dash, tachometer, or tach drive gearbox....just built a custom bracket for the rear of the generator....
