Gary,
I repaced the clutch as per the Haynes manual and after
reinstalling everything found the clutch springs fouled on the flywheel
bolts. Reversing it so the longer flange faced the engine worked for me.
This was a 77 1500.

I am replacing the clutch disc in a 1975 spitfire 1500. My Haynes
manual specifically says that the longer side of the hub on the center
of the disc should face the transmission, the disc itself says "flywheel
side". I am confused, so to all the spitfire experts out there which
way does it go on?
                                   thanks, Gary.
