3/4" drive socket and breaker bar with 5' scafold pole, with the crank jammed

Yes, but not on a spit.  It was on a Vaxhaul Nova.  It constantly threw fan 
belts. Turned out the pulley was bent.

I guess in your case it is either the pulley that is bent, or worst case, the 
end of the crankshaft is bent.
