I think this would be true only if you poured several gallons of starter
fluid into your gas tank and drove around on it.  Think about it:
If all the heat energy from burning one little spray of starter fluid
went to heating up your valves, how hot could they even get?

No!  You should analyze the problem more, and try to find the real
cause of the problem.  If the car runs OK when warmed up, the
carb as a whole can't be too messed up.  It is almost
certainly the choke mechanism.
