I am going the SU HS4 route ( ex UK carbs) and looking at the inlet manifolds
the dual Su one is so much better. The Stromberg one forces the gasses to make
two 90 degree turns. With the SU and K&N air filters the input flow is far
better. Virtually straight into the block.

Feasable, but a bit ill adviced perhaps.

The 1500 manifold is the most restrictive. The Mk4 has the larger individual
port runners
as I understand it. This will help above about 3000 rpm.

The ZS 150 isn't the end of the world in terms of performance. Stripped of the
many problem
circuits added onto it, it can work quite well.

Both manifolds can be easily modified to accept either the larger ZS, or an SU.
 Going with
an HS6 SU on this manifold seems to be a rather common modification on the
MG's. Worth
considering.

Better still of course is simply going with the dual SU's. It's not expensive
and gives good results.
Of course, this wouldn't pass a visual on emissions.

Everyone,
I was wondering about the feasibility of replacing the ZS 150 autochoke
carb on my 80 spitfire with a 175 from a TR7 (I don't have the specific part
nos. handy) and if it would provide any performance improvements. I figure
it probably wouldn't be a straight swap and was wondering what modifications
I might need to do (needle, swap the autochoke, etc.) Any and all thoughts
on this would be greatly appreciated.
