splitting the difference

i have a differential unit from a 74 spit on the bench , all the bolts
are loose, the allen bolts holding the output shafts are out , but i
cant seperate it, using screwdrivers i can just crack it open but there
is resistance, i have,nt undone the castellated nut ,i dont think thats
what, s causing the problem, but i could be wrong, could anyone point
out what i,m doing wrong .
