Doug,
I have a water pump, pulley and fan from a very early spitfire (it has the 
metal 4 blade fan) on my 78 Spitfire 1500.  I have heard the story from the 
PO but can't remember it. It seams to me that there is no difference in the 
water pumps throughout the years.

There is definitely a difference in the pulley sizes ... it's a pain in the 
a..... to get a new fan belt that fits.
