Cut and Shut car safty

I have just seen the results of a test on cut and shut cars on TV today, it
looked realy horible.  Passangers reciever 3 to 10 times worse injurys.
Although my car is not a cut and shut, it has lead me to wonder how safe are
things like replacement wings etc.  I think littel patches that MOT tester
make us do offer know protection at all.
