well, sam, my spitfire is also a '72, and there are no snaps on the doors
or crash pad. after i started taking care of the car, and did a little
research on spitfires, i came to the conclusion that a tonneau was
optional. but, who knows, i could be wrong

also, on my car, tha dash is plastic. however, some DPO cut a hole just
to the left of the steering wheel to mount an oil pressure gauge. that in
itself isn't such a bad thing, but, instead of cutting the hole where the
there was space in the steel under-side, he put it on the outer edge and
also destroyed the crash pad under that part of the dash.
in the short, i believe that a tonneau and wood dash were optional in '72.
