Starter problems on 1980 Spitfire

Hello listers,
I had sent in a note earlier about my starter just spinning and not engaging
the ring gear.  Most replies had said to replace the starter which I did but
now all I get is a click.  I was wondering what else could be wrong or if i
had done something wrong.  Please help as I am now lost.  The only other thing
that I could think of was the solenoid.
