See if you can find a 12TPI thread file. You start filing where the threads a=
re mostly good & keep filing over the damaged threads until you reach the en=
d. If you want to, you can then run a standard 12-24 die onto it afterwards.=
I got a set of SAE & metric decades ago from J. C. Whitney - May they Rest=
In Peace.=20

I have a output stud in an alternator case that the beginning threads are st=
ripped/galled/messed up from someone trying to force a metric nut on it. th=
e stud is about
5/8" long and the majority of the threads are good.

I can't seem to get a 12-24 die started so I know it will true up the existi=
ng threads. I see they make adjustable dies on the net... can I use that t=

the adjust the bolt in the die to sit right on the stud then thread it back o=
ver the bad threads ?? I just hate to send 20 bucks for the die if it won'=
t do what I want...

Any experience doing this ??
