Speaking of lint from washers.....one of the best cheap preventive measures you can get is to go to your neighborhood True Value store and buy a lint trap to go on the end of your washer discharge. It looks sort of like a plastic net condom. You used a wire tire to fasten it on. Check it every few months. You will be surprised how much lint you collect My washer goes into a sump pump and before I started using these I would have to disassemble my pump (a dirty job!) about every 6 months.
