that's the way I (almost) always do tile, except for 4x4 wall tile sometimes -
and that just because I was trying to make time. the adhesion is just so much
better applying the mortar to the tile. on the other hand, I usually work it
on there for several passes...I might be a little ont he overkill side... and
like I said, no one has ever been amazed by the speed with which I lay tile.
they say expressly not to do this. the idea is apparently to work the mortar
into the mesh, saturating it. otherwise the concern is that the tile might
stick to the mesh, but not stick the mesh to the slab.
