You could use a paint or dye to blacken in the gasket surface. Then while it's
still wet, place the gasket material over it to transfer the outline.

    Subject: Gasket making

So, there I was, in my shop, rebuilding the carburetor on my riding lawn
mower. I needed to make some quick gaskets for the carb to intake, and
carb to airpipe joints. I realize I could just buy new gaskets, but for
this type of thing I'd rather just make some gaskets out of gasket
    material.

What are some tricks to making a "pattern" for the gasket when I cannot
lay the actual part on the material and trace? Maybe use some tracing
paper, and "shading" the outline of the part?
