About the only variables on cleanness of cut with rotary mowers are:
Blade sharpness
Suction lift or blade angle
Tip speed of the blade
Tip speed is the "biggy" . . The major mower manufacturer I once repped used
10,000 feet per minute as a minimum tip speed to clean-cut most grass. If
your rider had a 24" cut, it only had to turn 2400 rpm to achieve 15,000
feet per minute tip speed.
If your zero turn has (for instance) 3 twelve inch blades, 2400 rpm would
only give 7500 feet per minute tip speed and it would leave a ragged cut . .
Check your specs, make your measurements and do your math. If the problem
seems to be blade angle or "lift", check your dealer for the availability of
blades with a more agressive lift.
