Now that it has rained and the ground is soft, it is time to dig a
trench and run some electricity to the fountain I installed in the backyard
during the summer. Its been running on a extension cord since
summer. Its a small water fountain and one 40W light bulb.
What are the rules for running wire underground ? I was thinking of just
running romex a foot or so deep but now that I am ready to do it I think it
should probably done better than that. Is romex ok ? or should it be wire
in some kind of conduit ? I assume plastic conduit if it is. I figure it
only has to last 5-10 years before we move and we will take the fountain
with us so there is no need to bother with a permit and making a extremely
busy inspector come out just for this but that does not mean I don't want
to do it right and safely.
