Think of it like a piggy bank.  If you are spending $1000 a week and the
bank is full and holds $1500 you can survive without a deposit (the
compressor cycling on) for 1.5 weeks.  If you add $1000 a week you are fine.
If you add $2000 every two weeks then you need a bigger bank to hold you
that last half week (bigger tank).  If you get paid $500 a week (compressor
too small) then you will have to wait while the money catches up to you.

With a compressor: if you can fill it faster than you drain it then you are
OK.  If you can drain it faster than you can fill it then you need enough
storage to hold you for longer.  If you have a small tank it will cycle more
often than if it is bigger.
