Workbenches:
I like wood. It's cheap and simple to work with.
The metal bench will give you welding practice.
Electric:
Have one or two circuits run out to the garage.
Have the compressor on it's own circuit.
And one for each of your high current tools.
Run the lighting on the existing wiring.
This way if you do trip a breaker, you are not in the dark.
