Same goes for some other mega-retailers that buy in similar quantities.
WalMart and (Price) Costco come to mind.  In Costco's case, it's usually the
same quality as the regular product, but maybe with some little accessory
added or removed.

The manufacturers also do this as a courtesy to the smaller retailers -- if
the corner store has something to differentiate its variant of, say, an
attic fan, it's easier for them to charge a little more to make up for their
higher overhead.
