Thank You Berry and Francois for the replies.
I have a 1974 Silver Shadow I with 75,000 miles in outstanding condition. I
was able to research the history and found I am the fifth owner. I purchased
it on 2 February, 1995 from a relative of a friend I fly with. The original
owner (South Carolina, USA) for whatever reason, ran it low on water which
resulted in engine problems. He sold it to a person in northern California
who had problems also and sold it to Jim Mangione (brother of Chuck Mangione
the musician) in Southern California who also had problems and sold it to a
person in the airplane business in Oklahoma. This person had the engine
rebuilt with all new components such as radiator, air conditioning, etc. The
car now runs and drives great. Interior and exterior (paint) are in
exceptional condition. I drive the car quite a bit. It is, as you said
Francois, "--quite amazing."
I recently had a problem with the brakes. The front accumulator began
leaking fluid really bad. I do all my own work and removed the accumulator,
released the nitrogen and sent it to a dealer who sent a rebuilt one which I
installed. I have the factory manual which, to me, is an absolute necessity
for working on this car.
I joined this list with the hopes of conversing with other Rolls Royce
owners, especially in terms of maintenance, care, events, etc.
I have five Jaguars and do all the work myself. I belong to two Jaguar
lists, E-Type Lovers and V-12 Engine and receive over 200 (two hundred)
messages a week. Needless to say, these lists are extremely helpful in
providing information for care of Jaguars and interactive feedback related
to many subjects.
Thats quite a trip you had Francois. Where are you located?
Again, Thank You Berry and Francois for the replies. I am interested in
hearing more about each of you and your cars.
Sincerely,
Don Hawley
