Hi Ken

Thats actually not too unusual behaviour for a Shadow with the GM Air
Injection Reactor system. Is your car equipped with the 'Smog Pump'?

Also, if the car has been operated with weak or old coolant long periods,
there can be cooling system troubles. GM currently markets a brand of
cooling system 'flush' that is safe for the RR engine. You may investigate
trying some out, its essentially a trisodium phosphate compound. The little
'Pills' used by GM in the cooling systems of thier cars, notably the
Cadillac HT4100 engine are safe and probably beneficial. Your parts
counterman will know what these are.

Just as a general rule of thumb, the engines become very sensitive to spark
knock as soon as they cross about 220 degrees actual water temperature. This
may give you a clue as to the actual temperature.

Theres a long list of possible causes, but its plausible theres nothing
wrong- is this a recent development, or has it always been more or less thus
since you've owned the car?

If you have time to give more information, perhaps something else may come
to mind.

Kind Regards
Brent Covey
