Sarah,
I was disappointed to read the response Richard Shears forwarded to me that
Haynes is unwilling to reprint technical manuals of interest to R-R/Bentley
enthusiasts.
I also understand the financial reality that producing a technical manual in
small quantities would be unprofitable for Haynes. I work at a large
commercial printer and often have to help customers and our print shop
management find solutions for customers that involve options other than
traditional long-run press jobs. Many of our customers have opted to bear the
cost of printing documents themselves if we can deliver the content in an
electronic format: PDF or HTML being two of the industry's current favorites.
Your organization has already borne most of the cost of the production of the
manual for the commercial press version so conversion to an electronic format
may not be as dauntingly complex or expensive as one may think ... and
business trends tending toward electronic, rather than traditional print
delivery, I would be surprised if there is not initiative nor infrastructure
within your organization already to begin to provide some of your publications
in an electronic format.
I would like to explore an electronic document delivery option for these
out-of-print manual with Haynes. Who would I need to speak with? In the US?
In the UK? Do you have their email addresses as well as phone numbers?
Thanks in advance,
Carl Follstad
