Hi Lee:

The truck was converted long before I bought it in '88. I assume it
uses an alternator as I thought generators only worked on old 6v
systems... ? I took a couple of pics last night of the area in question
to help clarify my question. They have been reduced in size to 200K each
to allow more easy viewing, but are a bit grainy therefore. They can be
found at

The second pic shows the top of the starter, which is where i THINK the
other side of the ammeter might belong.

I appreciate your help. The manuals aren't much good after a full scale
conversion thus I get to learn as I go. It's enjoyable, but occasionally
a little frustrating.

Thanks again

           Paul

Paul your electrical sys kind of leaves us in the dark. You mentioned a
12v reading, so I assume you have converted to a 12v system which
renders your '53 manual useless. Are you using an alternator or
generator? Do you have a voltage regulator? I believe the switch you are
referring to is a light cutout switch used with the foot pedal starter
switch All the above effects how your truck should be wired.
