The pilot bushing or bearing is a slightly tight fit in the crankshaft.
Push it into the crank dry, then grease the ID lightly before installing
the trans. Its purpose is to support the front of the input shaft. The
crank and trans input shaft spline don't turn together when the clutch
is disengaged.
