I agree with Terry.  He stopped by this morning with his lovely wife to
pick up his ole truck shirts and we talked a little about your problem. 
Sounds like you should take the carb apart and have it rebuilt.  I had a
similar problem when I first installed my old carb, taken from the bone
yard.  I had it rebuilt by the local Napa guys and intalled it with a
sediment bowl in front of it.  Stupid thing was that I used an old
connector that blew junk into my carb and clogged it all up.  After a
second rebuild and a new fitting it runs just great!  Check this out and
see what's in there.  May just be the float or some junk in there.
