Scott, I can't address the first two questions you asked, but I can shed
some light on the "AD" question. Chevy introduced a "new line" of trucks in
the Summer of 1947. They called their new line "Advance Design" (AD)
trucks. This "new" design was introduced by Chevy to take advantage of the
post-WWII folks who were buying more vehicles than ever before. Chevy kept
the Advance Design body style until early 1955.....when they made a complete
body style change. The later model '55s were called the "Task Force" (TF)
line of trucks, and this style continued until 1959. ('55 was also the
first year Chevy introduced the V-8 engine in their cars and trucks.)

The line of trucks prior to the ADs are called "Art Deco" trucks. As far as
I know, this line of trucks was from 1941 to early '47. There are actually
two completely different 1947 Chevy trucks.......the Art Deco early '47, and
the Advance Design later model '47. There are also two completely different
models of 1955 Chevy trucks.....the AD early '55 model, and the later Task
Force '55 model. That's why you'll see owners refer to their trucks as a
'55-First Series (or '55-1) or '55-Second Series (or '55-2). You'll also
see '47 owners refer to their trucks as a '47-First Series ('47-1) or a
'47-Second Series ('47-2).

This may be much more than you wanted to know!
