Still new to the truck so please be gentle with responses.
well, I am looking under the hood of my Truck here, and I see much copper
shining back at me. I have a couple thoughts. I would like to replace the
wiring all together, so I will be getting a wiring harness. but before
then, I would at least like to find out if things work. (bought in march,
haven't had time to work on it since it is stored off site, and I just got
married. so I have been busy. don't take that too far the wrong way.)
I guess the main question is if I can pull any/all fuses and still turn over
the engine? I know the wires to the head lights are fraying, and have a
short, but if I pull the light fuses, would that fix the light shorting
part? and for argument, what is the minimum wiring needed to run the motor
and starting system? there isn't a whole lot to begin with. which circuits
are needed? I have the diagrams and manuals. it has been a while and so far
I haven't even heard the motor kick over. It would be nice to get that out
of my system.
additional questions could be: what if the starter doesn't kick over? it
may have stuck or frozen over the passed couple years in the field. (bought
off a farm, last licensed in 1976 -- the Titling threads have been very
informative lately). could it be hammered loose (unstuck) very easily,
assuming it works after the jostling?
more off the subject, I have a pair of 16" rims on the front, and the
original 17.5" on the rear (I have all 5 17.5" but trying to get away from
that). I would like to get a matching set all around, but it seems
difficult to find 8 bolt rims around Minnesota, at least the last time I
went out looking. I know you can buy clips and original hubcaps, but do
those clips and caps go on ANY rim, or does one need to have similar styled
rims?
well there you have it, a few more questions out of my system. I really do
enjoy reading all the messages and responses. (I read mostly from the
archives off the Web during work, and sometimes I read them off the Internet
too <sarcasm> (insert Web/Internet-same-thing joke here))
once my wiring is cleaned up, I hope to have a new place to keep it. a few
more months and I am looking at a house. that will be nice. then big work
can get done... and I won't have to put everything back together before I
leave for the night. I don't seem to get very far when I have to put it all
back together before I go. sort of like digging a hole and then filling it
in. well, thanks again for all the info and support. very good list. well
