The guy you talked to at Chevrolet didn't know what he was talking about.
Yes, VIN numbers starting with a 3 were Oldsmobiles - IF the Olds in
question was a 1970s or mid-late 1960s model.
The 1958 Chevy pickup I used to own had a VIN of 3A58Bxxxxxx (don't remember
the rest, thus the x's).
I used to own Oldsmobiles, that's how I know...8^)
