I'll have to agree with Jack on the need for Power Steering for your
daughter.

If you install a line pressure reducer that's available from several
vendors, the sensitive steering feel will be reduced.  That will also reduce
the tendency for leaks to develop.

I have a 50 Chevy 1/2 Ton but with the added weight of a blower and a/c to
contents with and the manual rack does just fine for me.

I will add that when I added the 14" Steering Wheel the steering effort from
a stand still was dramatically increased and that was only with a  1"
diameter change.
