Check your fuel pump. If the diaphragm were torn it would not only answer
why the engine will no longer start (no fuel pressure to the carb), but
could be the reason there is gas in the oil (since the tank sits above the
level of the pump, it just drains into the engine right through the pump).
Also, gas washes the oil film off of the engine parts & could cause undue
wear: get the gas out of the crankcase & eliminate the source before turning
the engine over anymore.
