I just bought a 3sp with OD for $175 & I believe that Mike K (Wichita Falls)
bought one a short while back for $250; they're not easy to find.  Both his
& mine were recently rebuilt too, though, & I expect that added to the
price.  As far as connecting to a closed driveshaft, I don't think it is
possible.  Look for a 55-2nd to 60's something open rear & driveshaft at
your local yard.  The rear perches & shock mounts need to be modified, but
all is done on replacement parts (no mods. to your frame-i.e. can put back
to stock later, if desired, with no telltale signs).
