Bill, The vent window glass is held in place by a "Glass Filler" strip,
which creates the seal holding the glass in place. In a well ventilated
area, use gasoline to soak and soften the seal. The glass will come right
out. Clean the inside of the channel thoroughly, and remove all rust, etc.
Using new glass channel filler, cut the new piece two inches longer than you
need for the channel. Place this piece of the filler evenly around the
glass(Soapstone side away from the glass). The extra filler extending
beyond the rear edge of the glass should be pinched together to hold it in
place during glass installation. *One side of the filler - The outside of
the roll - is soapstone. This side goes into the metal channel. The channel
filler comes in two sizes .032 and .047" to allow you to select the proper
thickness so the glass can be installed without special tools. Brush light
oil (factory recommends SAE 10) into the inside of the channel liberally.
Push the glass and filler evenly into the channel until firmly seated.
After the glass is firmly in place, the oil causes the filler to swell
creating a perfect, watertight seal. Trim off excess filler around the
channel and at the ends of the channel. It takes about 24 hours for the oil
to fully effect the filler, so wait before doing any water leak checks.
