he most far-flung corner of=0Athe British Empire when the city's Young Pa=
rk is taken over for 1998's British=0ACar Days. For the seventh consecuti=
ve year the British Motorcar Club of=0ASouthern New Mexico will host the =
event which promises to be bigger and better=0Athan ever. This year the e=
vent will have several expanded and added features=0Aincluding a sit-down=
 dinner, an English Tea, and, for the first time, the=0Aautomotive exhibi=
tion will benefit Casa de Peregrinos, the  Las Cruces=0AEmergency Food Ba=
nk.=0A=0A"We confidently expect to have well over 60 cars participating t=
his year,"=0AClub President Ed Townley says. "We'll have rare and exotic =
British motorcars=0Afrom the 30's to the 90's on display. Probably close =
to a million dollars in=0Arare vehicles will be shown on the grass under =
the trees on Sunday, April 26."=0AThe list of car marques expected to par=
ticipate reads like a "who's who" of=0Aclassic British vehicles: Sunbeam,=
 MG, Jaguar, Austin-Healey, Lotus, Triumph,=0ATVR, Hillman, Elva, and man=
y other marques will be on display.=0A=0AAlthough registration and a "Mee=
t and Greet" happy hour get together with hors=0Ad'oeuvres and no-host ba=
r is set for Friday evening, April 24, the event=0Areally gets under way =
on Saturday when a Boot Sale and a Road Rallye through=0Athe beautiful Me=
silla Valley are scheduled. Transportation to nearby Olde=0AMesilla will =
be available for those who feel the need for a shopping=0Aopportunity on =
the picturesque Mesilla Plaza. In response to numerous comments=0Afrom at=
tendees in previous years, a buffet dinner has been added to the=0ASaturd=
ay evening schedule.=0A=0ASunday morning the participating vehicles will =
form up for a parade=97some have=0Acalled it a "rolling concours"=97throu=
gh Las Cruces to Young Park where they=0Awill be on display from 10 AM un=
til 2 PM when trophies will be awarded. While=0Athe cars are on display s=
everal fun events are tentatively planned including=0Atraditional British=
 Darts and a Piston Toss, a traditional British event where=0Aan automoti=
ve piston is pitched for distance and accuracy. Several hundred=0Aspectat=
ors are expected to examine the cars while they are on display.=0A=0AThe =
car show classes will be set based on the number of cars of the various=
=0Amarques that participate. In addition to class trophies, trophies will=
 be=0Aawarded for People's Choice, Best of Show, Most Distant Entry, Pres=
ident's=0AAward, and several others. Sunday's automotive display is free =
to spectators=0Abut the Club requests each spectator to donate a can of f=
