Bill,
As luck would have it, I just put a new parcel tray in my 1966 Traveller
today. So, the details are fresh. On my car, the tray had semi-disintegrated,
but enough was left for me to be able to tell how it was attached. The padded
"knee" bar is mounted to the side walls of the car by a single BSF thread
screw on each side. The cardboard tray is attached to this bar at seven
points by split rivets. It is attached to the firewall at six points, three
on each side, by a cotter pin and washer arrangement. The edge of the tray
that mounts on the firewall is bent down. The little corners of the tray that
are next to the firewall are bent up. The split rivets for attaching the tray
to the bar are available at any hardware store. They are approximately 3/8"
long. The cotter pin and washer arrangement used to attach the tray to the
firewall will probably not be available. I couldn't find them and made my
own. Use washers the size of a dime with a small hole. Use a cotter pin about
3/16ths thick and 3/4" to 1" long. Place the cotter pin in a vise with the
head protruding and smash it flat with a hammer. This will create a flat
head, or "T" head cotter pin. Slip the washer over the pin, and that should
approximate what was originally in the car. From the inside of the car, and
underneath the parcel tray, insert the cotter and washer through the
firewall. (This is easier with two people, but you could use masking tape to
hold it in place.) From the engine compartment, slip another washer over the
protruding cotter pin, pull it tight with pliers, and spread the cotter to
lock it in place. There were several variations of parcel trays through the
years, so the exact number of attachment points may vary.
As for "Morris the Ox" .....
The ox is painted red, and the wavy lines underneath him are blue.

Good Luck,
Randy Kegg
